Mystic Drawbridge General Store is the newest chapter of the second-generation family owned, and operated business behind the home-made ice cream you’ve come to know and love in downtown Mystic.
Here you’ll find our small-batch ice cream made fresh, on-site, with a behind the scenes sneak peek of how your favorite drawbridge desserts are made!
We will also be serving homemade pastries and baked goods, baked fresh daily by the newest MDIC addition, Carla Gennuso. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Carla as the newest addition to the Mystic Drawbridge kitchen!
Carla's journey into the culinary world began with a simple love for baking—a passion she has been exploring and growing for over 15 years. While in culinary school, she was determined to get as much hands-on exposure as possible to master her craft. This dedication led her to a French bistro where her talent caught the eye of the head chef, leading to a rigorous, hands-on apprenticeship. It was under his mentorship that Carla fell completely in love with the meticulous, classic techniques of pastry making.
For Carla, baking is as much a science as it is an art. She has a deep appreciation for the delicate steps of the process—from mixing and shaping to proofing and baking. She loves the precision of folding cold butter into the dough to create those signature, flaky layers for her favorite project: crafting the perfect laminated croissant dough. To her, the beauty of it lies in the fact that there is so much room for error in each individual step, and she genuinely loves the challenge of mastering such a precise skill.
Many in our community might already recognize Carla's incredible talents from her own local business, Loveridge Place, right here in Stonington, CT. Bringing her unique experience and passion together with the Mystic Drawbridge philosophy of making only the absolute best makes for the perfect pair. She thinks Old Mystic is absolutely beautiful and is so excited to work alongside a team that is just as dedicated to their craft as she is to hers.
That shared dedication shines through in every single batch she bakes. Carla truly thrives on being creative, experimenting with new recipes, and seeing what our community loves most. Whether she’s crafting her perfectly flaky croissants, fresh scones, and more, her goal is to bring a little joy to your day.
In addition to the fun treats Carla will be crafting up, we are also offering a specialty coffee and latte menu, and have thoughtfully curated local goods from the farmers, makers, and small businesses that help make our community so special. We use many of these ingredients in our ice cream flavors, and strive to support local when we can! Whether it be Shoyu (soy sauce), from Bob Florence over at Moromi, located in North Stonington, to Velvet Honey, from Drew over at Drew’s Honeybees in Norwich, CT, to custom roasted nuts over at Virginia Spanish Peanut Co out of Providence, RI. We have put just as much love and thought into our storefront as we do into our ice cream, and we are beyond thrilled to share it with you all!
Whether you’re stopping in for your morning coffee, an afternoon treat, or a unique, local find, we are so happy to welcome you! Stay tuned for our official opening date, helpful info, and updates for al things MDIC and MDGS!
